On 5th December, for the last session of the year, the HR Club shared the latest legal update related to the HR world.

The session started with an introduction from our Chair Pia Dekkers and from the representative of our sponsor, Audrey Haverkamp, EDHEC.

The first presentation was led by Ben Maitland*, from Vanessa Gauguin. Ben provided an overview of the current immigration system in the UK and key insights on common pitfalls for companies hiring foreign nationals and for foreign nationals wanting to work in the UK. He further highlighted best practices for companies and authorising officers as well as the importance of reporting consistently.

The second part of the Club was animated by Melanie Stancliffe, CRIPPS. Melanie provided an overview of the key tribunal statistics of 2023 and how they were to impact further caselaw. She also gave an update on recently passed legislation as well as potential areas for development in the current legislation. Finally, she concluded by delivering key insights into the IR35 system of off-payroll working and the various ways it could impact the different parties to the contract.
