Tom Ross, CEO, Home Grown Hotels
Tom Ross was born into the hotel industry with his parents having owned the award-winning Homewood Park hotel and Queensberry hotel, both in Bath. Following a short stint at The Chicago Ribshack as a teen, his first proper role in the industry was working for Robin Hutson at the Winchester Hotel du Vin when the group was in its infancy. From there Tom moved to the USA to work at the 5 star, 5 diamond Fearrington House, a Relais & Châteaux property in North Carolina before moving to the Napa Valley. He joined the world-renowned French Laundry Restaurant, winner of Best Restaurant in the World 2002 and 2003 where he progressed to maitre d'.
In 2004, after 3 years in Napa, Tom returned to the UK and took up a role at the Hotel du Vin in Brighton before becoming General Manager of Hotel du Vin Tunbridge Wells. In 2007 Tom then opened Hotel du Vin Cheltenham. In 2010 he became Operations Director for Jeremy Mogford in Oxford, overseeing The Old Bank Hotel and the Old Parsonage Hotel.
2013 saw Tom return to his hometown of Bath and at the same time return to work for Robin Hutson as Hotel Director of THE PIG-near Bath. Tom became Group Operations Director of THE PIGs in 2019. Following investment from KSL Capital in 2022, he assumed overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the business and in 2023 Tom was appointed CEO of THE PIG Hotels to oversee the planned expansion of the group.
Tom is an Ambassador and Board Member for Hospitality Action and has been involved in a number of fund-raising initiatives, including the Home Grown Hotels Back in Business and to Hell and Back campaigns where £120k was raised for Hospitality Action. On top of this Tom has helped to organise the Rugby Legends Dinner, again for Hospitality Action, which raised approx. £40k. Tom has run half marathons for Hospitality Action, Team Totti, a charity local to Bath, and Hope & Homes for children. Tom drove the reformed Belu relationship which sees Home Grown Hotels donate £80k a year to Belu who fund Water Aid. He also introduced the donation on hotel guests’ bills to support local charities which he estimates will raise £20k per hotel per annum for local charity.
Tom continues to live in Bath with his wife Melissa and their three children. Food, wine or fly-fishing related activities are what you might find him doing in his spare time.
