Sophie has been CEO of the Migration Museum for 10 years and is a passionate advocate of the need for there to be a moving and inspiring permanent cultural institution in the UK that puts our migration story at centre stage, where it belongs. Sophie has led the organisation from the time when it was just an idea to its current occupancy of a vibrant temporary home in a busy London shopping centre with a permanent home in the City of London in prospect from 2026. Sophie previously practised as an immigration barrister for many years, latterly at Tooks Court, chambers of Michael Mansfield QC, where she specialised in all areas of immigration, asylum and human rights law.

In 2002, she became judge of the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal, and also chaired appeals for the Social Security and Child Support Tribunal. She is a trustee of Our Hut, a charity that delivers architecture-based workshops in schools.
