Biography of Martin Summerscales

Martin is Head of the Retail Consultancy team at CBRE, specialising in retail location strategy, sales potential forecasting, site development and demographic analysis. He has worked on both the consultancy and client side, on behalf of a number of leading retailers including Estee Lauder, Marks & Spencer, New Balance and Nike. He has also worked a number of investor and landlord clients including Hammerson, DEKA, British Land, CapCo to name a few


Martin joined CBRE from Tesco PLC, where he worked with the retailer to improve their multichannel offer. As part of this role, he developed strategy around their stores, home delivery, click & collect service and new concepts.
Prior to this, Martin worked at Experian, where he spent three years within the Spatial Analysis team. This role involved working with retailers to optimise their location strategies from a consumer perspective, using demographic segmentation and customer datasets to predict future trends.


Martin has a solid background working on overseas projects, most recently in South Africa, Italy, Spain, Germany, the Nordics and the USA. He is often called upon to speak at client and industry events. The projects he has worked upon are as varied as helping an international sportswear brand to develop its global store portfolio through to working with a regional shopping centre/leisure complex to determine the most efficient use of space and the optimization of rental and secondary income.
